Bring Your Feet to Meet Darin Robinson, Our In-House Pedorthist
When your feet feel tired or sore, our board-certified pedorthist Darin Robinson is available for personalized in-store consultation. A 25-year veteran of the footwear industry, Darin will evaluate your foot and your gait and recommend the shoes or shoe modifications that best suit your needs.
Many foot and gait issues can be resolved by choosing the proper footwear, but if you need shoe modifications or orthotics, Darin will prescribe a solution. We have a large selection of ready-made orthotic inserts that may be what you need, but if there isn’t one off-the-shelf, Darin will design and custom-make one for you. If a shoe modification is the solution, Darin will provide the details to our master cobbler, Joe Dardano, whose old-world craftsmanship will produce the exact shoe you need for fit and fashion.
When the Problem Can’t be Solved with Shoes Alone
Sometimes a shoe modification or insert won’t solve the problem due to an underlying medical problem…a fracture or muscle tear. If that’s the case, pedorthist Darin Robinson is trained to examine and identify those problems and will refer you to an appropriate physician or therapist.
Bring Your Prescription to Dardano’s
Perhaps you have already been to a podiatrist or therapist who recommends custom footwear or orthotics. Since all of our fabrications are done on-site, you save both time and money by choosing Dardano’s for your footwear needs.

Getting to Love Your Feet
Most people don’t give their feet the respect they deserve. Our feet enable us to stand upright, get from place to place, and even to dance like nobody’s watching. Maybe if we knew them better we would love them more.
Your foot is a complex mechanical structure connected intricately to your leg by the ankle joint. Each foot and ankle is built from 26 bones connected by 33 joints held together and operated by over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Because of their location and the jobs they do, your feet and ankles are subject to more routine injury and illness than any other structural part of your body.
From ingrown toenails and fungal infections to trauma like sprained ankles and stress fractures or congenital disorders such as flat feet and club foot, your feet and ankles are under constant assault by everyday living. Humans add to this natural stress with improperly-fitting footwear that can throw bones, joints and muscles out of natural alignment causing pain and injury not just to our feet, but also referred pain and injury to our legs, hips and spine.
Our mission at Dardano’s is to restore the love between your feet and your shoes. Think of us as a counselor who can nourish the relationship between you and your long-suffering feet.
From footwear designed to pamper your feet while satisfying your need for style to our expert shoemakers and foot specialists, Dardano’s has assembled Colorado’s only comprehensive footwear team dedicated to making its customers feel great while looking terrific in the process. Board-certified pedorthist Darin Robinson and master shoemaker Joe Dardano diagnose, design, and deliver custom-made footwear that is like a Valentine for your feet.
At Dardano’s we’ll show you how to pamper your feet in a way that’s guaranteed to have them loving you back.
What is a Pedorthist?
A Pedorthist completes extensive training in the design, manufacture, modification and fit of footwear, shoes and foot orthoses to alleviate problems caused by disease, overuse, congenital condition or injury. Trained in the assessment of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics and the appropriate use of corrective footwear including shoes and shoe modifications, orthotics and other pedorthic devices, a pedorthist selects and modifies footwear and other prosthetic or orthotic devices to help people maintain or regain as much mobility as possible. A pedorthist has the skills and knowledge to make adjustments both inside and outside of footwear and to create products to assist in a patient’s recovery.
A physician who specializes in the treatment of the feet is called a podiatrist. Very often a pedorthist will work in concert with a podiatrist or other specialist such as an orthopedic surgeon or physical therapist to provide the solution to a musculoskeletal affliction.
When a person’s ability to walk is affected, everything that surrounds or touches the foot – whether it’s orthotics, shoes, hosiery, splints, prosthetics or other devices – interacts with the foot. When a foot requires medical attention, footwear becomes part of the treatment, recovery or rehabilitation. That’s where the pedorthist comes in.
The doctor treats the patient’s foot and the pedorthist addresses the patient’s footwear needs. Just as you take a prescription from your family doctor to a pharmacist to have it filled; when a podiatrist writes a prescription for specialized footwear, it’s a pedorthist who fills it. A footwear prescription takes into account the patient’s medical history, activities of daily living and treatment goals.
Pedorthists also follow up with the patient to make sure the footwear functions as the doctor prescribed.
The profession of pedorthics is relatively new. The outbreak of polio in the 1950s created a need for specialized footwear to deal with trauma caused by the disease and that led to the emergence of pedorthics as a scientific discipline. Today, pedorthics is a well-established allied health profession that contributes an invaluable service to your long-term healthcare.
